MUSIC
Join us at the historic Loch Hall for an evening of beautiful music featuring performers of the Melba Opera Trust. Brought to you by the Loch Village Arts Council.

"Named in honour of Dame Nellie Melba, this non-government funded trust nurtures promising young opera singers to develop and realise their full potential.
Driven by Dame Nellie Melba’s conviction that “a beautiful voice is not enough”, the Melba Opera Trust progresses artistic development alongside business training, mentoring and performance experience to prepare these young singers to become professionals on the world stage.
Our own Lady Loch, wife of Victoria’s 7th Governor Sir Henry Loch, was a strong supporter of Dame Nellie Melba. Dame Nellie was invited to sing at many an evening soirée during their time at Government House.
We are delighted to present for your enjoyment this evening of opera with supper included and drinks at bar prices.
So glam up, and be quick to buy your tickets to support Australia’s promising young opera singers". - Caroline Askew

Festive fun, with plays varying from the frivolous to the feisty, comedy, drama and food for thought.
A one act play festival provides an opportunity for friendly theatrical competition with some great prizes to be won, thanks to the local Community Bank® Branch of Bendigo Bank.

It is a time for locals and visitors to come and sample some (or all) of the marvellous theatrical entertainment on offer without having to spend a fortune.
It is also a chance to see new works written and performed by emerging theatre-makers, while soaking up the convivial atmosphere.

Theatre companies and youth groups are invited to submit their entries now for this amazing theatrical event.

MUSIC
‘The Gob-Iron String Band’ come out of Melbourne’s back-yard and beer-garden Old Timey scene. Forged on a shared obsession for early appalachian and cajun fiddle tunes, the incorporation of the harmonica (or Gob-Iron) gives this band a ‘honk’ that make folks want to dance. The Gob-Iron String Band are Nara DeMason, Charlie Sandford, Peter Graham, Moira Hanrahan and Tobias Hengeveld.

'Cat & Clint' are an Old Time Duo featuring sweet vocal harmonies, 5-string banjo, fiddle, banjo ukulele and mountain dulcimer. They are inspired and driven by Traditional Appalachian Mountain Music and the passing down of fiddle tunes and ballads through generations of players from Australia and the USA. Whether it’s a murder ballad, a song of longing and heartbreak, a crooked fiddle tune or a rollicking banjo song, Cat and Clint endeavor to present this music with the authenticity and respect that it demands. The duo mix up their repertoire with Clints original songs and a good dose of vintage country blues.

The Coal Creek Literary Festival will be running a number of writing competitions this year as part of the festival. The main competition will again be the Bert van Bedaf Memorial Award for the best short story. Bert was an integral part of getting the Coal Creek Literary Festival off the ground ten years ago. After Bert passed away in 2010, the open short story competition was renamed to honour his memory. The prize money was increased to $500 and has since drawn a very high standard of entries.

Past winning entries have been posted on the Coal Creek Literary Festival website.
https://coalcreekcommunityparkandmuseum.com/literary-festival/.
The competition is open to anyone with an imagination, a pen and paper or word processing program. You can enter as many times as you like, each entry must pay an entry fee.
Competition entry Fee is $15

The festival will also be running an Open Poetry competition which offers a $200 prize
Competition entry fee for this is $10

Now entering its seventh year, the Bert van Bedaf award has proved to be a very popular part of the Coal Creek Literary Festival with entries coming from all over Australia. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Coal Creek Literary Festival website or can be picked up from Coal Creek Community Park & Museum in Korumburra. Conditions and entry fees are all on the entry form.

So if you have a story crawling around in your head, something Grandpa did as a kid or a weird dream crying out for a meaning, get it down on paper and send it in. It could be worth $500.

Sunday, 14 October 2018. From 10.30am to 5.00pm. Prize winners will be announced at 12.30pm at the Festival.

‘Pathways to the Soul’: Helen Timbury & Karin Ryan.
Helen's linocuts celebrate National Parks and other protected places.
Through her work she seeks to raise awareness in others, pointing out the fragility, beauty and diversity of the environment.

Karin Ryan: "Ever since I could hold a pencil in my hand I have doodled, scribbled, drawn and sketched. In my art I want to capture the simple ordinary moments in life - the comfort and meaning of human relationships and the interaction and experience of humans in nature. I try to cheer people up and remind them of the simple pleasures of just existing.
