Together you will make a batch of macarons and their fillings from scratch, including making Italian meringue, using egg albumen, sugar, chocolate ganache and fruit gel recipes. You will fill and finish your own batch of macarons to take home, along with a Jacican Macaron recipe booklet.

This class is suitable for beginners as well as advanced cooks who wish to learn new skills and techniques. You will learn that macarons are not as hard as you think to bake. The Daffodil Festival is on at the same time at The Memorial Hall, Michael Place, Leongatha. On the Saturday there is also a street festival in Bair St with lots of market stalls and entertainment.
The official opening is at Mesley Hall, 8pm on Friday 1st Sept. The cost is $20 per head which includes finger food and drinks (exhibitors are free)

The winter growing season produces a great range of vegetables that can be preserved in various ways. This class teaches you the basics of home fermentation where you make your owe Kimchi, Sauerkraut and fermented beets.

This will be followed by winter jam, marmalade and pickles. You will make Giardiniera pickles, Rhubarb jam and Lemon marmalade. Before you can make your preserves, together you will pick the fruit need from the Jacican vegetable garden, as well as fresh vegetables that will be used to make your lunch. Guests divide the day haul between them and take home their bounty.

This class is suitable for beginners as well as advanced cooks who wish to learn new skills and techniques. You will learn techniques that you can use to impress everyone with your creative cooking abilities.

While you cook, a light lunch, using produce from the garden and local supplies will be served. The class can be offered as a private class for groups of six guests, dependent on availability of seasonal produce.

On Sunday 8 October 2017- The 2017 Coal Creek Literary Festival will be held at Coal Creek, Korumburra, Victoria.
Event Admission: $10, Concession: $8, Child Under 16: $5
Admission includes simple lunch.
Competitions:
$500 Writers Prize
The Coal Creek Literary Festival will be running a number of writing competitions this year as part of the festival. The main competition will again be the Bert van Bedaf Memorial Award for the best short story. Bert was an integral part of getting the Coal Creek Literary Festival off the ground ten years ago. After Bert passed away in 2010, the open short story competition was renamed to honour his memory. Past winning entries have been posted on the Coal Creek Literary Festival website.

The competition is open to anyone with an imagination, a pen and paper or word processing program. You can enter as many times as you like, each entry must pay an entry fee.
Competition entry Fee is $15

The festival will also be running an Open Poetry competition which offers a $200 prize
Competition entry fee is $10

Now entering its seventh year, the Bert van Bedaf award has proved to be a very popular part of the Coal Creek Literary Festival with entries coming from all over Australia.
Entry forms can be downloaded from the Coal Creek Literary Festival website or can be picked up from Coal Creek Community Park & Museum in Korumburra.
Conditions and entry fees are all on the entry form.

So.... if you have a story crawling around in your head, something Grandpa did as a kid or a weird dream crying out for a meaning, get it down on paper and send it in. It could be worth $500.

EXHIBITION
The first Mt Best Short Film Event on Saturday 18 November will attract film makers from Gippsland and surrounds. It's open to established and emerging artists.

The Film Event committee are currently seeking entries.
Film makers are invited to submit their shorts, less than 8 minutes in length, (longer pieces may be negotiated with the organisers). Films need to be submitted digitally as a file on a USB stick, together with a completed submission form. Film makers may also include up to three publicity stills on the same stick, as well as hard copies size 13x18 cm, from the film (making of, or promotional shots), optional.

Trophies and Certificates will be awarded in Open and Junior section.
Entries need to be delivered; arrangements can be made by contacting event co-ordinator, or mailed to:

The submission deadline is Friday 27th October 2017.
Submission is free. USB sticks and photos will be returned, if self-addressed envelope and postage is provided.

There’s so much to love about Italy and the Mirboo North Italian Festa wants to share it all with you! Come and join the fun as Baromi Park and Mirboo North come alive with a festival celebrating all things Italian in a fantastic day of free entertainment for the whole family.

Delicious food stalls, drinks terrace, market stalls, music, singing, dancing, comedy, displays, cooking demonstrations, grape stomping, cars and competitions. For the kids there’s the Jumping Castle, inflatable slide, face painting and lots more.

Before the festivities begin, you may like to join us for a celebration of the Feast of St Paul, which commences with an open air mass in Baromi Park commencing at 10.30 am, followed by a traditional procession of the Statue through the park just as they do in many villages in Italy. All denominations and faiths welcome.

FESTIVAL
Join us on the last Sunday in February 2018 to celebrate the 50th ‘Music for the People’ Concert held in the beautiful Mossvale Park in South Gippsland. To celebrate this milestone concert, we are thrilled to announce ‘The Royal Australian Navy Band’ as our special guest in 2018. Lieutenant Andrew Stokes, Officer-In-Charge, Royal Australian Navy Band will lead the 36 piece Concert Band and 16 piece Big Band in a variety of music including marches, popular classics, show tunes and music from the Big Band era.

So prepare to be treated to a delightful day of entertainment, featuring the South Gippsland Concert Band, Wonthaggi Citizens Band and South Gippsland Shire Brass Band from 11am, and the Royal Australian Navy Band from 2pm.
Sunday 25 February 2018, Gates open at 10am.
